Spyderco Sage 6 Rex 121 — Fourteen Days in Italy, One Knife, No Sharpening

Fourteen days in Italy. One very special knife. No sharpening.

Tango, my Spyderco Sage 6 in Rex 121, was the only knife I took with me. I had spent almost a week preparing its edge — 15 degrees per side, diamond rods, a deliberately toothy finish — and then I simply put it in my pocket and left.

For fourteen days, it cut food, cardboard, wood and meat. It was used for whittling, dragged across ceramic plates, exposed to tomato juice and vinegar, and handed to people who had absolutely no idea how much work had gone into that edge.

I never sharpened it.

When I finally came home, a few passes on leather were enough to bring the edge straight back to shaving sharp.

**Rex 121 had just spent two weeks proving that a truly exceptional knife doesn’t need to be babied. It needs to be used.**
