MagnaMax vs. the World – How the New Super Steel Behaves in Everyday Use, 4 months later…

I’m no laboratory rat, much more of a Lobby Rat! No microscope, no CATRA machine, no Rockwell tester. What interests me is how a steel behaves when you actually live with it.

And MagnaMax has been a rather pleasant surprise.

From punching through bean-can lids to dealing with hard plastics, cardboard, kitchen sponges and the occasional brutal encounter with a ceramic plate, my Manix 2 has taken quite a beating. No tip deformation, no chipping, no visible wear on the stonewashed finish.

Edge maintenance has also been surprisingly enjoyable. No diamond abrasives needed: a plain white ceramic rod was more than enough to bring the blade back to razor sharpness.

But perhaps the biggest surprise is its corrosion resistance. K390, CPM-M4 and REX 121 each have their own personality, but MagnaMax seems to play in a different league. So far, no patina, no pitting, no worries.

After all these weeks, I find myself thinking less and less about its specifications. I simply reach for V8 and get on with my day.

Whatever comes my way, V8 is ready for it. And I don’t have to think twice.

MagnaMax rules! It lives up to every promise!
